You may have read this title thinking, what is she talking about? While the title reads strange it is a great question. Are you connecting to dead things? You may not directly as yourself this question but indirectly considered where you are not producing anything good. Here is a quick reference list to get your thinking wheel turning on the topic.
- procrastination
- in a job where you are not appreciated or progressing
- overwhelmed with anxiety
- poor sleep quality
- overstretched in various areas of your life
- feeling guilty rather than satisfied
This list is just to get your mind considering the ways being connected to dead things are delaying your growth. A big indicator for me of being connected to something dead is it is causing me more discomfort than satisfaction. I want to expand on this statement to prevent any misunderstanding. All discomfort is not bad, some leads to growth. This is why I try to assess everything that is going on with me, around me and to me that is causing discomfort. I make any necessary adjustments on my end. I do not, I repeat I do not expect other people to change, nor do I try to control the environment. I have no power to control others (another example of a dead thing).
Knowing that I cannot change anyone else I work on me. I sit in silence with my thoughts (Tip: set a limit on how much time you will do this to avoid overthinking). When necessary, I consult wiser counsel, not anyone who will always tell me I am right. Those people may not mean any harm, but they are causing harm not holding me accountable. Of course, I pray asking God to reveal what to me that I am not seeing and to separate me from anything that does not produce fruit.
Once dead things have been revealed I go through the process of terminating the relationship with the thing. Remember, the thing is not always a person, it is also our behaviors, habits, places we go and etc. Death has a certain smell that will stink up the surrounding areas. If the dead areas are not pruned it will cause the other areas to weaken and eventually kill the whole plant, even crop. Cut it off! I would love to break down more on the topic of not producing fruit and dead things, but this is not the platform for it. As you come to the end of this blog, ask yourself the following questions.
