As The New Year Approaches

As the New Year approaches, consider the resolutions you create for the year. Are they realistic, are they based upon your needs or aimed to help you become the person you want to be? Some of the typical resolutions were to eat less meat, go to the gym more, give up sugar, and etcetera. While creating goals it can be helpful not to set ourselves up for disaster. A few helpful questions:

Where was I emotionally when I created this resolution?

Am I able to safely execute this resolution without harmful consequences?

Is this a resolution I can navigate alone or should I consult another person?

Do I need to work with a medical professional to ensure I am safe during the process?

It is important to not set yourself up for failure but creating resolutions just for the sake of creating them. Sure, someone may ask you about your resolutions at work or at school. Don’t fall into the traps and pressure of structuring your life to answer the questions of others. Do you feel comfortable not explaining yourself to others? It is okay to not race with the world and meet the timeframes they create. It is okay to not want to set a resolution, it’s okay to not create a vision board, it is okay to not share your plans with the world.

As the New Year approaches be careful for the traps of comparison and the pressures of not having a mind of your own.
